Total Pet Parasite Protection

Intestinal parasites are all around. Break the cycle by asking your veterinarian about a Total Pet Parasite Protection program.

Break the Cycle of Intestinal Parasites

Total Parasite Protection program consists of four elements:

  1. Always use a monthly heartworm preventative. These drugs not only protect your pets from deadly heartworms but also from some intestinal parasites. Alone, however they don't provide complete protection — they don't prevent pets from acquiring new infections.
  2. Ask your veterinarian about instituting a gap deworming program with a broad-spectrum dewormer like Drontal® and Drontal Plus. This is important for two reasons. First, not all heartworm preventatives kill all intestinal parasites — take a look at this comparison chart for details. Second, heartworm preventatives are dosed around the lifecycle of heartworms, not intestinal parasites.
  3. Always use topical monthly flea control. Because one of the most common tapeworms can only be spread through fleas, it's critical to always use a monthly flea control product like Advantage®, or a monthly flea, tick and mosquito control product like K9 Advantix®*.
  4. Take these simple steps at home to help prevent parasitic zoonosis: Healthy Pets, Healthy Family video

* K9 Advantix is for use on dogs only.
